Curtis Mayfield just keeps on pushing, with no sign of letting up.
When asked about future directions, he replies, "I don't want to classify myself in any particular area. I would like to think
that people will just accept me for me, whether it be through production or through very deep songs or songs of love or whatever it might be -- it will be meaningful."
Meaningful, indeed:
Curtis' solo career brought the public two more exceptional albums, the double album "Curtis Live," and his third "Roots," that broadened the range of his admirers and raised the general consciousness about his unique talents.
This momentum exploded with clamorous success in the year 1972, the year of "Super Fly."
Early in 1972 Curtis was approached by Sig Shore, an independent producer, who gave Curtis an original script that dealt with the life of a cocaine dealer in Harlem.
