1) Contest Winners
Congratulations to William of Madisonville, Kentucky, and Joe from Dallas, Texas, more winners of the Standing in The Shadows of Motown CD.
2) Cash Money for You from the Record Companies!
So you got ripped off by paying $20 for that Vanilla Ice CD way back when. You are as mad a hell, and you can't take it anymore!
If you bought a music CD in the 1990's, you could collect a check with a phone call or a visit to a website we'll tell you about in a second.
As much as $20 could be waiting for you if you purchased a CD between 1995 and 2000. Few consumers are participating in the $143 million class-action settlement against the top five distributors of compact discs (who accepted this rebate remedy because of price fixing allegations).
To get your money, call toll free (number removed), or go to this website:
2021 Update: Class-action settlement has ended.
The deadline is March 3, 2003. So far, only about 2 million people have taken advantage of this free money (if you purchased a CD between 1995-2000).
3) Music Crossword Puzzle Mania
Four new music crossword puzzles have been added to:
2021 Update: Flash puzzles have been sunset.
Have some big fun with these gems. We'll be adding more every month, so visit the site often.
Try your hand at puzzle #4.
4) Music News: Diana, Michael, Bobby, Stevie, and India
Diana Ross
E! cable network just broadcast a 2 hour special on the rise and fall of Diana Ross. The profile of Motown's feisty diva had it's controversial moments. There's police video footage of Diana's recent DUI arrest, showing her pleading with the cops not to issue her a citation.
Among the stars who tell all about Miss Ross: former Supreme Mary Wilson, Martha Reeves, Ashford & Simpson, song writers Holland, Dozier, and Holland, and assorted other characters.
Conspicuous by his absence is Motown founder Berry Gordy Jr. (also missing in action from the recent documentary "Standing In The Shadows of Motown.")
Diana Ross, the E! True Hollywood Story is a must see. There's a lot to learn about the music business, about some of your favorite R&B personalities, and about life.
Here are the encore broadcast times (Eastern)

Michael Jackson
Thursday, February 20th, Fox Network will air "Michael Jackson, Take Two: The Interview They Wouldn't Show You." You'll see out-take video from Michael Jackson's personal film crew rather than what the BBC camera crew captured for ABC.
I thought the two hour ABC special (that over 27.1 million people watched in the USA), took advantage of Michael's subdued off-stage persona. The King of Pop was no match for the abrasive British journalist Martin Bashir.
You can find a deposition filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court in a December, 1993 Lawsuit against Jackson at:

Decide for yourself based on this deposition, what's true, and what's not.

Bobby Brown
Bobby Brown was sentenced in January to eight days in jail and ordered not to drive for a year after pleading guilty to a 1996 drunken driving charge in DeKalb County, Georgia.
He also faces charges in Atlanta, where he was arrested this past November for possession of marijuana, speeding, and driving without a license or proof of insurance.

India.Arie and Stevie Wonder
"The Christmas Song," sung by India.Arie and Stevie Wonder, and commissioned by Target Corp., has been nominated for a Grammy.
The track, available only on the Voyage to India.Arie CD's sold exclusively at Target, was also used in TV ads.
The word is that Target officials were shocked to find out that the song had been nominated. Store executives were not aware that Arie's label, Motown, submitted the song for Grammy consideration.
The 45th Annual Grammy Awards are Sunday, February 23rd, at 8pm Eastern.
